PORBANDAR

The name "Porbandar" came from the combination of two words: "Porai", the name of a local goddess, and "Bandar" means port or harbour. Thus, 'Porbandar' translates to 'Porai's harbour' Porbandar Port is an all weather port with direct berthing conveniences. The port faces the Arabian Sea and lies in the west coast of Saurashtra. 2 km south-east of the lighthouse is the anchor buoy of 10 m depth. Wharf for steamers are available. The port handles import and export of commodities.
