Tourist Attraction around Puri

CHILKA LAKE - It is the largest brackish water lake in Asia and is situated at a distance of 121 kms from Bhubaneswar. The lake supports a variety of aquatic birds which migrate from as far as the Caspian Sea, Lake Baikal, Aral Sea and remote parts of Russia, Kirghizstan and Ladakh to feed and breed in its abundant waters. The shimmering blue lake attracts large numbers of tourists here year after year. The shoreline presents some thrilling trekking routes and beach camping facilities. For those in search of either leisure or adventure, Chilika makes for an ultimate getaway.

KONARK
- The Sun Temple at Konark, 65 km from Bhubaneswar, is an exquisite 13th-century temple. Surya, the Sun God, has been carved in stone and is shown to be speeding across the sky in a gorgeous chariot. With twelve huge pairs of marvelously sculpted wheels and seven richly decorated horses, this sculpture marks the peak of achievement of the Kalinga school of architecture.

RAGHURAJPUR
- A craftsmen’s village, about 12 kilometres from Puri, is another place that should be visited. It is where the famous Orissa Patta chitra textiles or fabrics decorated with the art of Orissa, come from. The village is a picturesque place with lots of painters and artisans living here, presenting a typical picture of an east- Indian village. If you want to get a feel of the life of native Oriyas, you must not miss a visit to this idyllic village.

SAKHI GOPAL
Located at a distance of 25 kms from Puri, Sakhi Gopal is yet another holy place to be visited around Puri. According to legend, Lord Krishna came here as a witness or sakhi to sort out a dispute between two Brahmans. This is how it derived its name. Later, Lord Krishna liked this place and decided to stay here a while. Sakhi Gopal has a life-size image of Krishna as a child, to commemorate this legendary incident.
