Tourist Attraction around Gangotri

Bhairon Ghati or Bhairon Valley is located on the route to Uttarkashi, 9 km from Gangotri. The valley is at the confluence of the Jat Ganga and rivers Bhagirathi. It is known for its Bhairavnath Temple.







Gangnani
Situated 1,855 metres above sea level, Gangnani is famous for its hot water springs called Gaurikund. Located en route to Uttarkashi, 53 km from Gangotri, Gangnani also has a 15th-century temple.






Gaumukh
4,200 metres above sea level, Gaumukh (cow’s mouth) Glacier is where Ganga originates geographically. The Ganga, known as Bhagirathi here, is situated 18 kms uphill from Gangotri.






Harsil
Situated 25 km from Gangotri, Harsil is a beautiful hill stations in the Garhwal Himalayas. An off-the-beaten-track destination, it still is unexplored by the tourists. Situated at an altitude of 2,620 mts above sea level, the main attraction here is the Wilson Cottage built in 1864. Sat Tal (Seven Lakes) near the village of Dharali is at a trek of 7 kms from Harsil.




Kedartal
is a stunning and captivating lake situated 18 km from Gangotri. With the Thalaiyasagar Peak as its backdrop, the lake looks amazingly beautiful. The trek to Kedartal (4,000 metres above sea level) is arduous and needs professional help for the amateurs. Kedartal is the base for further trek to Jogin, Bhrigupanth, Thaliyasagar, and other peaks.




Nandanvan and Tapovan
A tough 6-km trek along Gangotri glacier takes you to Nandanvan, the base camp for Bhagirathi peaks. The Nandanvan offers some excellent views of the Shivling peak. Tapovan, situated across the snout of Gangotri Glacier, is known for its exquisite greenness encircling the base of the Shivling Peak. From here one can go to Kalindikhal, Vasuki Tal, and Badrinath.





Uttarkashi
Situated on the banks of Bhagirathi, Uttarkashi is the district headquarters. Uttarkashi, 97 km from Gangotri, is known for the Vishwanath and Kuteti Devi temples. It is also the last destination to stock up on your supplies for those treking up in the north.
