Tourist Attraction around Badami

Aihole
Aihole represents the third centre of Chalukyan architectural centres. Situated 129 kms off Bijapur, it was an important centre during the rule of the Chalukyas. There are numerous richly carved Hindu temples belonging to the 6th and 7th centuries. Some important one’s include the Meguti Temple, Lad Khan Temple, and the Durga Temple. A small museum run by the archaeological department that displays artifacts discovered from Aihole, mostly of the Chalukyan era.



Banashankari
Situated 50 km from Badami, the temple of Banashankari is devoted to Banashankari or Shakambari, a incarnation of Goddess Parvati. The originally built by the Chalukyas of Kalyan, the present structure was built only in the 17th century. The temple is heavily influenced by the Dravidian style of architecture.




Mahakuta Temple
situated 14 km from Badami, is a well-known place of worship. The architecture of the temple displays influence of both southern as well as northern styles.


Pattadakal
Second capital of the mighty Chalukyans, is also an important centre of Chalukyan architecture. Most of the temples here are dating back to 6th and 7th centuries AD. Among the important temples are the Mallikarjuna Temple, Virupaksha Temple, and the Papanatha Temple. Pattadakal is at 20 km from Badami.



The Naganath Temple
10 kms east of Badami towards Mahakuta, is the Naganath Temple dating back to the Chalukyan times. The temple is devoted to Lord Shiva.
